Janitors

"Spins plenty of action around an audience-pleasing premise...entertaining ruckus." (Fantasy. 10-13)
- Kirkus Reviews

SALT LAKE CITY — Sweeping readers into an exciting story of magic, secrets, and adventure, Janitors, by debut author Tyler Whitesides, starts off the next great fantasy series.  This novel is sure to charm young readers and sit among Fablehaven, Leven Thumps, and The Hourglass Door trilogy as Shadow Mountain favorites.
Janitors reveals the truth hidden deep inside elementary schools and guarded by those who claim the janitor title.
Have you ever fallen asleep during math class? Are you easily distracted while listening to your English teacher? Do you find yourself completely uninterested in geography? Well, it may not be your fault. The janitors at Welcher Elementary know a secret, and it’s draining all the smarts out of the kids. Twelve-year-old Spencer Zumbro, with the help of his classmate Daisy Gullible Gates, must fight against secret janitorial society that wields wizard-like powers. Who can Spencer and Daisy trust and how will they protect their school and possibly the world? Find out in Janitors, the first book in a new children’s fantasy series.  You’ll never look at a mop the same way again.
Janitors will polish the shelves in August 2011.  To learn more about Tyler Whitesides and the Janitors series visit TylerWhitesides.com.

The Golden Spiral Wins
Benjamin Franklin Award

NEW YORK CITY, May 23, 2011 — Shadow Mountain is proud to announce The Golden Spiral by Lisa Mangum won in the 2011 Benjamin Franklin Award for the young adult fiction category; this is the highest honor for independent publishers.

The Benjamin Franklin Awards are sponsored by the Independent Book Publishers Association, and celebrate excellence in editorial and design for titles published in the year 2010. Judges come from all areas of the industry: major newspaper and trade media reviewers, bookstore and library buyers and reviewers, non-competing publishers, artists and writers who serve the industry.

The Golden Spiral, published by Shadow Mountain in 2010, is the sequel to The Hourglass Door, ForeWord Reviews’ 2009 Young Adult Fiction Book of the Year. In The Golden Spiral it is now Abby’s turn to save the day after the hourglass door has closed behind Dante, sending him back in time to hunt down Zo, Tony, and V. Abby knows that Dante, as a Master of Time, is the only one who can stop them from destroying time itself. She also knows that he will need her help.  But almost immediately, things start to change, and Abby’s worst fears are realized when Zo begins targeting her past.

With each new change that ripples into her present, Abby’s life continues to spiral out of control. Her relationships with Jason, Natalie, and even her family are threatened to the breaking point and beyond. Zo’s power is greater than Abby ever imagined, but as she struggles to free Dante, she receives help from an unexpected — and unlikely—ally.

The final book in the Hourglass Door trilogy, The Forgotten Locket, releases in June 2011.

As an avid reader at a young age, Mangum could be found skipping recess to volunteer in her elementary school library. Her first paying job was at the Sandy Library shelving books. For five years Mangum worked at Waldenbooks while she attended the University of Utah where she graduated with a degree in English. Since 1997, she has been involved in the publishing industry and has worked in many editorial positions. Mangum now lives in Taylorsville, Utah, with her husband Tracy.

Karaoke Night Hits a High Note
Karaoke and pizza buffet pack the house at Pizza Pie Café

LOGAN, Utah – What do Michael Jackson, Elton John and The Beatles have in common? Karaoke Night at Pizza Pie Café.

Karaoke Night has become a novelty to residents inside and out of Cache Valley for the past couple of months. Bringing in over 300 people every Thursday from 9:00pm-12:00am, the event continues to flourish. “Some nights it’s standing room only. But, the kids don't seem to mind because they're all dancing away,” said Manager Sam Ellsworth.

A local DJ presented Karaoke Night to Pizza Pie Café in Provo. Hesitant at first, Dennis Jordan, manager of the Provo location, decided to attend one of his shows and immediately decided to test the idea.  With the success in Provo, Pizza Pie Café launched the event in Logan where it was accepted with open arms.

“It's cheap, it fills your tummy, and it's just fun to come and hangout. Whether you sing or just watch the kids have a blast,” said Ellsworth.

For five dollars guests enjoy a pizza, pasta and salad buffet topped off with the high energy of karaoke entertainment. Pizza Pie Café hopes to continue Karaoke Night and spread the event into their main dining room allowing more guests to participate.

Pizza Pie Café, formerly known as Craigo’s Gourmet Pizza, was created in 2003 in Rexburg, Idaho by Matt Smith and his wife, Jane. There are now six Pizza Pie Café locations in operation.

Lance,

The Cache Valley Area Investors Association (CVAIA) offers a unique opportunity to the community to learn about financial independence. I think your readers would be interested in reading about the association in a feature because financial independence is something everyone wishes to achieve but may not know where to start. CVAIA could be the spark Cache Valley needs to reach financial independence. I would be more than happy to arrange interviews and provide additional information if you are interested.

Local Association Embraces Financial Independence
Investors Association Teaches Cache Valley Residents Financial Independence

LOGAN, Utah – Cache Valley Area Investors Association (CVAIA) is educating residents in financial independence.

CVAIA President and Founder, Preston Parker, said, “If you’re spending more money than you’re bringing in you will never be financially independent.” Self-sufficiency can be achieved in five to ten years by creating passive income which is received on a regular basis with little effort. Though, Parker advises to invest money you can afford to lose completely.

Parker organized the association to educate people who complain about their jobs or need financial advice. CVAIA’s purpose is to provide education and networking opportunities. Members have the chance to learn from experts, explore investment ideas and connect with other members for passive income ventures.

If people learn the right mentality and approaches to investing, they can all be successful in what they desire. People should be able to spend their time doing something they love, not just a job that provides an income. Passive income largely makes this possible. There are many organizations with the stated goal of helping people understand the relationship between assets, liabilities, income, expenses. They practice the methods found in the ideologies of books included Rich Dad Poor Dad, The Wealthy Barber, The Millionaire Next Door, Atlas Shrugged, The Automatic Millionaire, and The Secret.

Cache Valley Area Investors Association (CVAIA) teaches people how to increase passive income. CVAIA embraces the Law of Attraction, Law of Abundance, and Law of Exchange. CVAIA began in August 2007 and now has members from many geographical locations and from all walks of life. Social Media Savvy Spreads through Cache Valley
Social Media Club Gives Local Companies a Lesson in Social Media

LOGAN, Utah – The Social Media Club of Cache Valley (SMCCV) is helping local businesses launch into social media. With 100 to 120 members SMCCV has reached critical mass and is currently assisting over five businesses including ICON Health and Fitness.

The club focuses on hands-on education and networking to expand digital media literacy. “Everyone from beginners to experts of social media is invited,” said President Preston Parker. SMCCV meets with each client to create goals and measures progress regularly. Parker’s current goal for the club is to take on more clients and reach out to an older demographic. He would like to get more businesses involved and continue to expand.
The American Festival Chorus, directed by Craig Jessop, has been the SMCCV’s main client since April of last year. On November 25th the choir performed at the Cache Valley Mall in a flash mob that has reached ninety-two thousand views on YouTube. The club helped organize and prepare the choir for the event and assisted in launching the video. The choir’s one-year contract will end this April and the club will be interviewing companies to find their next major client.
Prior to the club’s existence in Cache Valley, club members traveled to Salt Lake City once a month to attend meetings. In August of 2009 the club was officially established in Logan. There are currently four sponsors for the club; Expercom, Cache Valley Radio Group, Bear River Health Department, and Multimediawise.
